Williamson Lifts Guinea Pigs to 8-7 Triumph
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs beat the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, 8-7, in part because of catcher Rich Williamson. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Gwinnett reliever Taisuke Honma picked up the win, raising his record to 2-0. Cortez Aguila was tagged with the loss. Sebastian Brown locked down his 7th save.
Williamson had a clutch at-bat in the bottom of the seventh for the Guinea Pigs. Coming up with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Gwinnett trailing 7-6, he hit a 2-run single.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Gwinnett manager Pedro Vázquez.
At 15-11, the Guinea Pigs are currently second in the Menard's AA.
