Rainbow Mermaids Need Extra Innings to Top Elite, 4-2
Starting pitcher José Hernández was a major factor in the 4-2 Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids triumph over the Detroit Elite. With the win, the Rainbow Mermaids sit at 57-50.

Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of Lance Smith to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We take it day by day here," said Hernández, "and today was a good one for us."
