Nova Scotia Bats Go Silent in 1-0 Loss
|
The Nova Scotia Leviathan wasted an inspired, 7.2-inning effort from starter Earl Hurdle, falling 1-0 to the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC at The Dungeon in Halifax. Wulf Hinkamp, the winning pitcher, improved to 5-6. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 5 hits and no runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Thunder Bay is now 52-47, Nova Scotia 56-43.
Shintaro Hagi was 2 for 4 with 2 singles for Thunder Bay. The 22-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the third. With two out and a runner on 2nd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring single off Earl Hurdle. It was his 83rd hit of the season.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Nova Scotia manager Tyler Studebaker.
