José Martínez was superb against Northern Virginia. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the 3L with a 10.1 K/9 rate, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Elite victory. The score was 5-4. Martínez picked up the win for Detroit, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 13-5. Carroll Kelly got credit for the save for Detroit. It was his 6th of the year.

The Elite got a big hit from designated hitter Octávio Cruz. In the top of the fifth, Cruz pounded a 2-run home run to right. His 13th home run of the season put the Elite ahead, 3-2.
