Athletic Club KC starter Martin Elzey put a stranglehold on the Baton Rouge offense. The right-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Reserves to a 2-1 win. The Reserves, at 39-45, sit in 8th place in the Premier AAA.

When he came to bat in the bottom of the 11th, Sergio Valentín had a chance to be the hero. Baton Rouge pitcher Matt Jenkins had other ideas. But with one out, Valentín hit a sacrifice fly. The Reserves had themselves a dramatic win.

"We didn't go down without a fight," said Baton Rouge manager Sixto Palaeios.
