Monsters Need Extra Innings to Top Reserves, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Monongahela Monsters and the Athletic Club KC Reserves, pitcher Hyeong-ro Yi was the difference between victory and defeat. The Monongahela right-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 Monsters win. Monongahela reliever Kirby Perkins picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Fernando Marín shouldered the loss. Mané Garrincha earned the save for Monongahela, his 1st of the year.
Monongahela used a timely hit from César Rodríguez to get the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Monsters ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Afterward, Monsters manager Sancho Tornero was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Monongahela currently is in second place in the Premier AAA at 23-19.
