Disaster Walk It Off for 33rd Win of Season
|
Syracuse got a terrific game from center fielder Artie Smith. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Port Royal, 6-5. Smith went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Port Royal reliever José Pérez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Dave Green shouldered the loss. Port Royal is now 33-31, Syracuse 42-22.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Port Royal trailing 5-4, Norbert King hit a fastball from Dave Green for a 2-run home run, giving the Disaster the walk-off win.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," King said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
