Disaster Rally For 2-1 Win
|
Port Royal picked up a win at The Zoo in Syracuse, toppling the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys, 2-1. Pitcher Mario Silva was one of the reasons the Disaster triumphed. Silva, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. With the win, Port Royal pushed its record to 24-23.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, José Arroyo's at-bat in the top of the eighth was vitally important. With two out, the Port Royal third baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run, to give his team a 2-1 lead.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Syracuse skipper Scott Garrison, "and it cost us."
