Lake Monsters Tag Hot Chickens with 7-1 Loss

Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Nashville Hot Chickens were eager to watch Keith Whalen square off against Raúl Gómez of the visiting Vermont Lake Monsters. In the end, the Lake Monsters won the game, 7-1, with Raúl Gómez leading the way. Gómez went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-0. Troy Charles Jr., summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
The Lake Monsters benefited from an error in the top of the fifth inning. Vermont was leading 1-0 when Shintaro Hagi hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Vermont in front, 3-0.
In comments to the Vermont Bulletin, Gómez insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
