Kvernoey, Leviathan Too Much for Bowties

The Nova Scotia Leviathan defeated the Buckhead Bowties, 9-1, at 5 Paces Park today. Leading the charge for Nova Scotia was first baseman Gareth Kvernoey. He was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Andrew Johnson, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held Buckhead to 1 run on 4 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 10 strikeouts. With the loss, Buckhead is 2-1.
With runs few and far between, the Leviathan had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Nova Scotia came in the top of the fourth inning, when shortstop Cor van Capelleveen delivered a run-scoring single. The single was hit off Elias Visscher and made the score 1-0, Leviathan. van Capelleveen went 2 for 3 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," van Capelleveen told the Nova Scotia Times.
