Russell Slugs Harbor Whales to 5-0 Win
|
The Greenport Harbor Whales downed the Long Island Ducks, 5-0, at Ducks Park. The Harbor Whales were led by Matt Russell. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. David Bernal, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held the Ducks to no runs on 2 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 11 and walking 1. Picking up the save was Gerben Groothuijzen, his 1st.
Russell had a game-changing home run in the top of the sixth. On a 1-2 curveball from Martin Bates, he banged a 2-run home run to right-center, giving the Harbor Whales a 2-0 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Russell.
Russell called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."
The Ducks fall to 7-9 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2053 season.
