Extra-Inning Win by River Rats Over Seahawks
|
Myrtle Beach got a terrific performance from pitcher Kel Ellis, but it wasn't enough to beat the Columbia River Rats. Columbia won the Seahwaks Stadium contest, 6-4. Ellis threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. Wes Bailey notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record now sits at 2-4. Rob Sawyer earned the save, his 20th, for the River Rats.
Columbia needed the clutch hitting of Bill Johnson to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the River Rats on top, 5-4. For the game, Johnson had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It was terrific getting this win," Johnson said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
The 5th-place River Rats are 45-41.
