The Smoky Mountain Hobeaus did just enough to sneak past the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 6-5, at The Cocoon. Smoky Mountain pitcher Conor Mabty, in particular, had a standout performance. Mabty got the win, improving to 4-6. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Mabty allowed 4 runs. Smoky Mountain, with the win, sits at 26-57.
Smoky Mountain used the bat of Kevin Vega to get the win. The second baseman hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the second inning to put the Hobeaus ahead, 5-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Mabty said.
