Matlacha Defeated by Delmarva, 2-1
|
Matlacha got a valiant performance from pitcher Michael Ross, but it wasn't enough to beat the Delmarva Gallos. Delmarva won the game, 2-1. Ross threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. José Souza earned the win for Delmarva. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 4-1. Maurice Richards closed the game out for Delmarva, earning his 4th save.
The Gallos got an important contribution from right fielder Hughie Dook, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 3-1 fastball into left for a 2-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Gallos ahead, 2-1.
"This was a tough loss," said Matlacha manager Jorge Villanueva. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."
The win puts Delmarva at 45-41 this season.
