The Laredo Hawks had to overcome a fine effort from Myrtle Beach pitcher Colby Hopkins to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Seahwaks Stadium. Hopkins went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The Hawks, now 10-3, have played inspired baseball.
In the top of the seventh, Laredo first baseman Jesús Rivera hit a run-scoring single to center field. The clutch hit made it, 4-3, Hawks.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Myrtle Beach manager Tom Oglander. "But we decided not to take it."
