The Lake Erie Arryns faced a tough opponent in South Beach pitcher Lorenzo Castillo, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Ballpark on the Beach by a final score of 3-2. Castillo went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Lake Erie pitcher Wan-hua Yi got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Paul Hays got the loss. Darryl Smith, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Lake Erie used the timely hitting of Sidney Nuesink to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Arryns on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Afterward, Arryns manager Carlos Meléndez was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The win puts Lake Erie at 5-2.
