Reapers Top Walleye in Extras, 2-0
|
The Walla Walla Walleye wasted an inspired, 7.2-inning effort from starter Steve Stevens, falling 2-0 to the Grim Reapers at Walleye Tank. Mark Peterson recorded his 5th save for Grim. With the win, Grim raised its record to 36-29.
Grim used the timely hitting of Rickey Monroe to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Reapers on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Reapers manager Terrence Eler told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
