Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Franky Bongers, the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus lost to the Monroeville Yinzers, 7-6. Bongers went 3-4 with 3 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Monroeville reliever Lou Hart picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Christopher Parkin absorbed the loss. With the win, Monroeville lifts its record to 1-1.
Having an impact for Monroeville was Dan Gilbert. In the top of the fourth inning, the 21-year old first baseman had a run-scoring sacrifice fly to make the score 7-0, Yinzers.
"We got the victory," said Gilbert. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
