No one was more impactful than Gary Blackburn in the 6-5 Matlacha win over Delmarva. Blackburn, who is tied for 9th in the SA with a .406 on-base percentage, went 2 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner in relief was Eric Wheaton. He is now 2-1. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. Matlacha, now 12-11, holds down 5th place in the Silver A.
Matlacha used the timely hitting of Miguel Rivas to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Manatees on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Matlacha manager Jorge Villanueva.
