Aalbers Holds Long Island Hitless
|
The Toledo Stingers relied on no-hit stuff from starter Volmer Aalbers to defeat the Long Island Lighthouse 6-0 at Pacesetter Park today.
"It's quite a thrill," Aalbers told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."
To get his name logged in the United States Silver League records, he stopped Long Island cold and hitless, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 11 of the 29 batters he faced.
Toledo manager TJ Reynolds was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Aalbers "made managing easy today."
"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."
