The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the Asheville Highlanders, 8-2, at Virginia Beach Grounds. Virginia Beach left fielder Jim Willis had a superb performance. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Jim McKee got credit for the win, improving to 3-5. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 6 innings. Ricardo Romo earned the save for Virginia Beach, his 1st of the year.

With Virginia Beach leading 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Willis hit a fastball from John Miller for a 3-run home run. It was his 8th home run of the season and put the Whales ahead, 8-2.

Willis told a Virginia Beach Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

Virginia Beach is now 37-61, while Asheville is 46-52.
