The Virginia Beach Whales weathered an outstanding game by Billings second baseman Marty Brandt to topple the Polar Bears, 8-7. Brandt went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2. Virginia Beach reliever Peter O'Farrell was the winner. His record is now 1-6. The losing pitcher was Nelson Shaffer. The Whales raised their record to 35-49.

The game was decided with two out in the bottom of the ninth. With Virginia Beach trailing 7-6, John Robinson hit a fastball from Huibrecht Brouwers to right for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Whales had a walk-off win.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Whales manager Marv Bradford. "This one was nice to get."
