Krewe Suffer 6-5 Setback
|
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis weathered an outstanding game by Crescent City second baseman Keng-chi Zhou to topple the Krewe, 6-5. Zhou was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Luis García earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 5-2. The 9th-place Pierogis have a record of 32-48.
Big Bear Lake, California-born Jacob Cox came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the Pierogis trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Squirrel Hill on top.
After the game, Cox refused to speak to a reporter for the Squirrel Hill Bulletin. "You've accused me of throwing teammates under the bus," he said. "So, excuse me if I decline to answer your questions."
