The home crowd had a good time watching the Virginia Beach Whales and Squirrel Hill Pierogis get after it.

The Squirrel Hill Pierogis downed the Virginia Beach Whales, 13-4. The hitting star was first baseman Jov Shantsev. Shantsev went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Pierogis. Balltesar Marmeleira collected save number 1.

Shantsev contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Squirrel Hill in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 4-3, Shantsev took a fastball from Arthur Barr and stroked the double to right. His 16th double of the season allowed the Pierogis to leap in front, 5-4.

"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Shantsev.

Squirrel Hill now owns a record of 27-44.
