Left-hander Dale Burney mesmerized the Virginia Beach Whales while leading the Asheville Highlanders to a 5-0 victory. Burney went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 3-4. Virginia Beach now has a 5-game losing streak.

The Highlanders got an important contribution from left fielder Max Hoban, who in the bottom of the third hit a fastball into right-center for a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Highlanders ahead, 3-0.
