Mercer Island picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, toppling the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-2. Pitcher Nick Johnston was one of the reasons the Screaming Eagles triumphed. Sixto Espinosa closed it out for his 1st save. Mercer Island improves to 48-12 with the win. They lead their division by 13½ games.

Mercer Island relied on the bat of Brian Neame to get the win. The designated hitter ripped a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 2-1. For the game, Neame had 1 double and 1 triple in 3 at-bats.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Mercer Island skipper Ricardo Vargas.
