Mercer Island Gets 5-3 Win
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Virginia Beach Whales, 5-3, at Virginia Beach Grounds today. Leading the charge for Mercer Island was left fielder Koji Sugisata. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Mercer Island reliever Masafumi Yoshino got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Peter O'Farrell was tagged with the loss. Aaron Houghton got the save, the 4th for him this season.

Sugisata had a timely hit for Mercer Island in the top of the ninth. With Virginia Beach trailing 3-2, he turned a 1-2 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season, making it 5-3, Mercer Island.

"Enjoyed this one," Sugisata told the Mercer Island Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

Mercer Island has an impressive 34-9 record.
