Santos Leads Highlanders to Win
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Gulf Coast Turbeaus and Asheville Highlanders get after it.
The Asheville Highlanders topped the Gulf Coast Turbeaus by a score of 9-4. Leading the way was center fielder Juan Santos. Santos was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Highlanders. The 6th-place Highlanders improved to 19-21.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, Curt Marks was at the plate when Asheville scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Highlanders to go in front, 5-4.
"Glad to get this win," said Santos. "But we need to keep playing at a high level."
