Virginia Beach Grounds was the site for USPL Double A action featuring the Billings Polar Bears and Virginia Beach Whales.
In a low-scoring affair between the Virginia Beach Whales and the Billings Polar Bears, pitcher Daniel Goodwin was the difference between victory and defeat. The Virginia Beach right-hander earned accolades in the 3-0 Whales win. Peter O'Farrell recorded the save for Virginia Beach, his 6th of the season.
The Whales got a big at-bat from third baseman Jesús Fernández. For the game, Fernández went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Virginia Beach a 1-0 lead.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Virginia Beach manager Marv Bradford.
The Whales raised their record to 8-9.
