Turbeaus Snatch Late Win
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus had to overcome a fine performance from Mercer Island pitcher Nick Johnston to grab a 3-2 win at Mercer Island Grounds. Johnston allowed no runs over 5.2 innings. The winner was Alfredo Ramos in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Masafumi Yoshino took the loss. Otis Luhgow closed the door for Gulf Coast, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Gulf Coast needed the clutch hitting of Alec Clay to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Turbeaus on top, 3-2. For the game, Clay had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll savor this win," Clay told the Gulf Coast Today, "then get ready for the next game."
The loss drops Mercer Island to 11-4.
