Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Highlanders
In a tight game between the Asheville Highlanders and the Billings Polar Bears, pitcher Tomás Silva was terrific on the mound. The Asheville right-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. Asheville reliever John Miller was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Nelson Shaffer. Billings is 4-5 after the loss.

The most important at-bat for Asheville came in the top of the ninth inning, when center fielder Ken Combs stroked a 2-2 fastball to center for a run-scoring single, putting Asheville up, 2-1.

"Tough loss," said Billings manager Steve Ferguson. "But we'll learn from it."
