Whales Win at Athletic Club KC Academy, 6-2

The Athletic Club KC Academy got a sterling performance from pitcher Richie Lems, but the Virginia Beach Whales still prevailed, 6-2. Lems threw 5.1 innings allowing 3 runs. Virginia Beach reliever Ricardo Romo got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Richie Lems was tagged with the loss. Lonnie Slaughter finished to wrap up his 1st save.
Jim Willis aided the Virginia Beach cause with a run-scoring triple in the top of the sixth. For the game, the center fielder was 1-4 with a triple.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Willis told the Virginia Beach Gazette.
With the loss, Athletic Club KC Academy falls to 1-1.
