Minnesota Beats Gwinnett, 5-2
|
Minnesota picked up a win at Experimental Stadium, toppling the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 5-2. Pitcher Conner Hopkins was one of the reasons the Loons triumphed. The winning pitcher was Hopkins, now 6-8. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Júlio Martínez closed the game out for Minnesota, earning his 23rd save.
Minnesota relied on the hitting of Jorge Gavilanes to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the second inning to put the Loons on top, 2-0. For the game, Gavilanes had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I liked his command," said Minnesota manager Eddie O'Bryan. "Conner was throwing strikes."
The loss makes Gwinnett 58-40.
