Miners Lose Late, 4-2
|
The St. Petersburg Thunder took Marquette pitcher Ben Gallagher's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Baby Thunder Dome. The final score had St. Petersburg getting past the Miners, 4-2. Gallagher went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 3. The winner in relief was André Chambon. He is now 4-2. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. The Thunder, at 54-41, sit in second place in the Silver AA.
Had Wayne Schmidt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Schmidt hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Thunder.
After the game, St. Petersburg manager Emílio Sáenz applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
