Atoms Go Down to Defeat, 6-5
|
The Bethesda Atoms and Yakima Hops provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Yakima Hops handed the Bethesda Atoms a loss at Atoms Field. The final score was 6-5. Andre Stenis made the highlight reel for Yakima. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 1 run and drove in 3. He also added 2 bases on balls. Yakima reliever Phil Murphy picked up the win to move to 1-0. Brent Allen suffered the loss. Marcus Kelly closed the game out for Yakima, earning his 2nd save.
Stenis contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Yakima in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-1, Stenis took a fastball from Brent Allen and stroked the home run to right-center. His 12th home run of the season allowed the Hops to leap in front, 4-3.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Yakima manager Benjamin Baars.
Yakima goes to 34-29, Bethesda to 20-43.
