Miners Deal Thunder 6-3 Loss
|
The St. Petersburg Thunder got a superb performance from pitcher Larry Austin, but the Marquette Miners still won the game, 6-3. Austin came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters. Ben Gallagher, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 7-3. Mario Ledezma earned the save for Marquette, his 13th.
The Miners grabbed the lead in the top of the fifth. With no one out, Jerry Duggleby hit a 3-run home run off Randy Crane, putting Marquette in front, 5-1. For Duggleby, it was his 8th home run of the season.
In comments to the Marquette Observer, Duggleby admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Marquette is 26-28 and St. Petersburg, with the loss, 31-23.
