Vernon Álvarez pitched well, but his team, the Ottawa Fat Cats, still dropped a 3-2 decision to the Northville Eclipse at Old-Timers Park. Northville pitcher Hussain Farooq got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Vernon Álvarez got the loss. Yuan Hsueh earned the save, his 14th in 18 tries.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the sixth, with the game tied, Joe Saunders was at the plate when Northville scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Eclipse to go in front, 3-2.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Saunders.
With this game in the books, Northville is 58-29, Ottawa 49-38.
