Rainbow Mermaids Go Down to Defeat, 4-3
|
The Detroit Elite topped the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3, in Menard's Third League action at Atlantica. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Pinar del Rio, Cuba, native José Martínez. Jim Hicks was called on to finish, recording his 27th save. The first-place Elite have won 4 straight games.
Detroit used a well-timed hit by Octávio Cruz to capture the win. The left fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Elite ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Martínez.
