Martin Leads Fat Cats to 7-4 Win Over Fur Traders
|
The 7-4 Ottawa win over Tacoma was due in large part to Bill Martin. The Fat Cats third baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Vernon Álvarez got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Fur Traders to no runs on 1 hit over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 1. Jonathan Luna earned the save for Ottawa, his 2nd of the year.
The Fat Cats got a big boost from third baseman Tony Cordero who had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth inning off Fur Traders hurler Eduardo Soto. It was his 1st RBI of the season and put Ottawa on top, 1-0.
In postgame comments to the Ottawa Observer, Cordero said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
With the win, Ottawa goes to 2-1.
