Fighting Dachshunds Lose By a Run at Syracuse, 5-4
|
The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys did just enough to sneak past the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds, 5-4, at The Zoo in Syracuse. Syracuse pitcher Steve Gourin, in particular, had a standout performance. Gourin, now 6-5, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 4 runs. Earning his 24th save of the year was Bryce Poindexter.
In the bottom of the second, Chad Proctor hit a 3-run home run. The 11th home run of the season for the Syracuse first baseman put the Squirrel Monkeys on top, 4-1.
"Feels good to get the job done," Proctor said after the game.
Syracuse improves to 51-25 with the win. They lead their division by 3½ games.
