Mayes Shines in 10-7 Syracuse Win
The Zoo in Syracuse was the site for USSL Triple A action featuring the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds and Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys.

George Mayes added some punch to the Syracuse offense, helping them outmuscle the Ellenburg Fighting Dachshunds, 10-7. In the game, Mayes, who is tied for 10th in the SAAA in RBI with 15, was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. Bryce Poindexter, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save.

Tied up with the Fighting Dachshunds in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Squirrel Monkeys got a boost from designated hitter Colton Pennington. With the bases loaded, Pennington saw a 1-1 splitter from Félix Montáñez and hit a 2-run single to break the stalemate and put Syracuse on top, 3-1.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Scott Garrison.

The triumph puts Syracuse at 19-8 for the season.
