Milton Dogfish Head starter Clemenz Lawrence turned in a sterling performance against the Athletic Club KC Reserves, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Lawrence got the win, improving to 2-2. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Lawrence allowed 1 run. Claudio Ortega finished to wrap up his 7th save.
The Reserves had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Dogfish Head going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 34-year old second baseman Rafael Riquelme came to the plate. Riquelme hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch sinker from Athletic Club KC hurler John Moyer. It was Riquelme's 17th double of the year.
Afterward, Dogfish Head manager Gonzalo Velásquez was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Milton has now won 4 games in a row.
