The Athletic Club KC Reserves faced a tough opponent in Sioux Falls pitcher Salvador Heredia, but did just enough to pull out the victory at KC Reserve Stadium by a final score of 5-3. Heredia went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Athletic Club KC reliever Gunnar Hicks was the winner. His record is now 5-4. Mike Thomas took the loss. Athletic Club KC occupies 7th place in the Premier AAA at 36-41.
Azusa, California-born Leon Burns came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded and the Reserves trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to left to put Athletic Club KC on top.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Burns. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
