Red Pandas Score Late to Upend Humpbacks, 2-1
|
The Bamboo Forest hosted an old-fashioned pitchers' duel.
The Sioux Falls Red Pandas had to overcome a good performance from Alaskan pitcher Dave Bass to claim a 2-1 win at The Bamboo Forest. Bass went 6.1 innings and allowed 1 run. José Medina picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Gary Podell was tagged with the loss.
Had Michizane Yamashita not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Yamashita hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Red Pandas.
"I was a little disappointed," said Alaskan manager Kelly Flint. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Sioux Falls now has a record of 37-30 with the win.
