Starks Suffer 2-1 Setback
Bill Strain pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Syracuse Starks, despite Strain's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Kansas Rainbeaus at Stark Stadium. Alberto Ramos sewed up the save, his 15th. Kansas is now 24-33.

Kansas used a timely hit from Bob Davis to get the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rainbeaus ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"Runs were at a premium," said Kansas manager Chan-koo Kim.
