The Athletic Club KC Reserves did just enough to secure a victory over the Monongahela Monsters, 5-4, at KC Reserve Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Richie Lems. The winner in relief was Tom Matthews. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-1. Gunnar Hicks finished the game for Athletic Club KC and earned his 4th save.

Scott Powell aided the Athletic Club KC cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the designated hitter was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Monongahela manager Sancho Tornero said following the tough loss.

Their 23-30 record puts the Reserves 8th in the Premier AAA.
