Hot Chickens Take Down Lake Monsters, 3-2
|
The Nashville Hot Chickens beat the Vermont Lake Monsters, 3-2, in part because of center fielder Jason Melton. He went 2-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Billy Ramsey earned the win to go to 7-3. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 10 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. Alejandro Colón converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
Melton came through with some timely hitting for Nashville. With Vermont trailing 2-1 in the top of the eighth, Melton hit a 1-1 slider for a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season made it 3-2, Nashville.
Afterward, Hot Chickens manager Ward Wilberfoss was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Nashville is now 42-36.
