The Monongahela Monsters took Syracuse pitcher Bill Strain's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Timber Hawks Ballpark. The final score had Monongahela getting past the Starks, 3-2. Strain went 7.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Syracuse drops to 9-10.

The game ended with a bang. In the bottom of the ninth, with Monongahela trailing 2-1, José Mercado jumped on a 2-0 fastball from Thomas Sangrey for a 2-run home run, sending the Monsters to a walk-off win.

"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Allen Carlson.
