Pawnee got a valiant performance from pitcher Noboru Kokawa, but it wasn't enough to beat the Austin Black Mambas. Austin won the game, 3-2. Kokawa threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. Luke Fitzgerald came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 2-0. Austin has now won 6 games in a row.
Austin used a clutch hit from Keaton Sturge to get the win. The first baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Black Mambas ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a doozy.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Sturge told the Austin Times. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
