Hot Chickens Knock Off Black Mambas, 4-2
|
The Nashville Hot Chickens beat the Austin Black Mambas, 4-2. Nashville pitcher and Yardville-Groveville, New Jersey, native Elwood Meredith led the way. Nashville reliever Elwood Meredith got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Carlos Gómez was tagged with the loss. Clancy Wood was credited with the save for Nashville, his 1st of the season.
The Hot Chickens got a big at-bat from second baseman Ryan O'Callahan. For the game, O'Callahan went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Nashville a 4-2 lead.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Nashville manager Ward Wilberfoss.
The 'W' lifts Nashville's record to 21-17.
